Finalists from the last season of Slama compete for the prize of Grand Slam champ, and the top four become the Slamalamadingdong slam team that competes at the National Poetry Slam in Denver from August 7-12.
We also have the fabulous Joel McKerrow and Anna McGahan performing an excerpt from their spoken word theatre show, People of the Sun.
WOW Women of the World Festival - Women, Art & Politics Residency
A collaboration between Footscray Community Arts Centre’s Collaborate Asia Program and Asia TOPA, Women, Art & Politics is an international residency for visiting visual and performing artists from South and Southeast Asia and Australia.
Led by Leticia Caceres and Jade Lillie, the residency explores the theme Women, Art & Politics, in their local and global contexts and how they impacted their practice and communities. Throughout the two-week residency artists have developed new collaborative works through critical conversations and creative exchanges about what it means to be a woman, in art and politics, in the world today. Outcomes will be shared throughout WOW Melbourne.
Artists include Lena Caminha (Timor Leste), Sadaf Saaz (Bangladesh), Fitriani Dwi Kurniasih (Indonesia), Heather Horrocks (AUS) Lisa Greenaway (AUS), Mallika Taneja (India), Ahmarnya Price (AUS) and Bigoa Chuol (AUS)
As part of WOW Café, the event will feature the launch of their collaborative paste-up work and outcomes of their creative lab. Expect spoken word poetry, sound art, performance and an insight into cross-cultural collaboration.

Melbourne Spoken Word is proud to present Tanya Evanson (CAN).
The Toronto based spoken word artist has performed around the world including at Glastonbury Festival, Vancouver Writers Fest, Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Calgary Spoken Word Festival, Edmonton Poetry Festival, Ottawa International Writer's Festival, and the Bowery Poetry Club.
And for one night only the critically acclaimed, experimental poet will be sharing Howler's performance space with Eleanor Jackson, Nathan Curnow and Soreti Kadir plus the winner of Slamalamadingdong in September. Tunes and special mixes by DJ LAPKAT.
